Upgrades to new major releases are free, if your last purchase was less than 2 months ago. Just install the latest release, and request a new registration key as described above. Notes: After major releases we may send out special upgrade coupons to registered users with valid email addresses. Make sure, that you SPAM filter allows mails from CodedColor.com. A major release means, that the leading version digit increases, as in 5.8 to 6.0.

icon_tipCan I use my old registration key in the new version?

Old registration keys don't work in major release jumps, such as from 5.8 to 6.0. You have to login to your account from within the software and request an upgrade registration key.

icon_tipWhat's the difference between the SE and the Pro version?

SE versions are Special Editions for magazines. These versions are free for the readers. You have to register online with a coupon and a valid email address, so that we can send you upgrade offers when we launch new major releases.

After installation, CodedColor PhotoStudio SE runs in Pro Trialmode for 30 days. Even after this period, the reader can register the free SE version, or the discounted full version (discount around 30%) using the magazine coupon.

The SE version is more than a cool image viewer. It contains many useful organizing and editing tools, and for many users, the number of features is more than enough. The following options, among others, are not part of the SE version and will run only in demo mode:

·Fast searching (keyword, title, annotation, filename, etc.)
·Batch conversion of image folders (change filetypes, compress, resize, add watermarks, enhance, etc)
·Batch renaming of files
·Webalbum export with tree browser and slideshow
·Compress albums to selfextracting archive
·eMail photos and albums with integrated resizing and archive compression
·SmartFix and a toolbar containing professional enhancement dialogs and brushes
·Video capture dialog
·Panorama stitch
·DTP editor and PDF export
·Full version upgrade offers for new major releases
·First level support

icon_tipHow can I colorize B/W images?

·Use the Fill tool with a very low tolerance around 15. You can interactively change the tolerance to reduce overflow errors. Start with Opacity of 50% and blend mode Overlay. This way you can inrease the color by another click in the same area, or even mix colors. Every click can be undone. Play around with an image, as this will finally give you the best settings.

·Use the paint, clone or eraser brush to correct remaining errors

icon_tipCan i use the orientation flag to automatically rotate my images, or can I correct the flag?

This flag is a big mess. Every software uses it differently, so it's pretty useless. "Correcting" it will cause other programs to fail. To make things worse, some cameras even mess up when writing the information, for instance because the tilt sensor does not work correctly. Often image and thumb are also asynchronous.

This is why CodedColor assumes - after every editing operation - that the current orientation is correct, and sets EXIF_Orientation to 1. It also writes a thumb with the same orientation to the image file, so that both are synchronous from now on.

Example 1: if your exif thumbnail has a vertical orientation, but your image is horizontally aligned, and you edit the image without rotating it, then save the image, you will get:

·a horizontal image
·a horizontal thumb
·EXIF_Orientation = 1

Example 2: if image and thumb are vertical, but the image should be horizontally aligned, then you should rotate it in the rotation dialog. After saving the image you will get the same result as above.
